I am going there in two days with my fiance. She is allergic to them and just wanted to know how bad they are there. If anyone has been there and could give us a heads up. It would be appreciated. Is there any good way to repel them from her?

  1. use citronella oil smells strong but the bugs stay away

  2. In St. Lucia this is a plague!!! I've been there with my wife and we had to go home because it was terrible ! I prefer Dominican Republic much, much better !!!

  3. Just make sure she uses a repellent. Something with deet. That will keep them away. Someone said they use vaseline and that helps. I would think that would be very messy. I have never tried using that tip.

I use  a product with 30% deet and it works. Some products work up to 8/10 hours. I bought mine in Walmart in the camping department.

    Good Luck)

  4. I used to live in St Lucia and can't remember ever having been bitten by sand flies (i assume we're talking about the same thing here) and i lived on a boat so, i don't think you'll have a problem. When i went to Anguilla the little suckers where attacking me left right and centre, it was awful! but as soon as u have something on your skin, be it sun lotion or mosquito spray, they'll leave u alone. Don't fret, it's really not a problem out there, unless something's changed since last november.

    Have a fab holiday!!
