  1. Where to start.

First of all I work on an ambulance and I can tell you that we see a lot more deaths in the summer months than the winter months. Yes, there are quite a few deaths during the holiday season.

The reason I have observed is that when it's cold outside and snowing and icy, people pay better attention to road conditions and generally drive very focused.  They don't want to slide off the road and be stuck somewhere.

During the summer months people are not paying attention to road hazards. They are going to the beach or partying with friends and give little concern to the environment around them.  They day-dream more and don't pay attention to what they are doing.

Also, when it is cold people realize this as a health concern and they layer their cloths on.  They turn up the heat and they try to stay warm.  When it is warm out they wear very little and don't hydrate well.  We see many people die from exposure in the summer and not very many in the winter.  People don't understand that things like beer, ice tea, soda and other sugary drinks DO NOT rehydrate them.  They seldom drink water or other drinks that re-hydrate them, it causes them to go into heat cramps or heat stroke.

Older people suffer strokes and heart-attacks from strenuous work outside during the summer months.  It feels good to be outdoors and they over do it.  When it's cold, people limit their time to the elements.  Not so much in the summer months though.

For some strange reason we are more afraid of the winter months than we are of the summer months.

Motorcycles are another cause of high fatality on the summer months.  None but the extreme riders venture out in the winter months on a motorcycle, but during the summer you have all sorts of people on motorcycles, and may of them are novices.

Sorry to take so much of your time reading this, but to sum it all up.  Yes, more people tend to die by accident in the summer months than the winter months, and when I say "accident" I mean they are deaths that could have been prevented with a little more care.
