Question:

Are the sunsigns the most strong influence?

Okay, I'll explain why I'm thinking this. My party trick to guess people sunsigns. Observations I make can be quite peculiar and random, and the ones that make sense (like Cancerians having mood swings, not that they like stripes) I sort of get in and try to understand the sunsign. I know the sunsign isn't all in astrology, but I'll get to that. Anyway, by noticing similarities between many people, that's how I recognise the sunsign - so it is the most obvious thing to me at least, and so I presume it has to have a strong influence. Others disagree, and I am interested to learn more. I am getting to understand more about moon signs (and have actually guessed 2 now) but I am still confused. For example, I know two people with Sagittarius moon, and I can see it played out in behaviour. But they are different - one's a Gemini, and the Sagittarius moon really blatantly shows itself when the Gemini gets excited. The other is a Scorpio with Sag moon. Anyway, the thing is, what are

  1. I think that they play one of the biggest roles in your personality, but the other 11 do matter a lot.If you have a Leo sun and an Aquarius moon then the person must be not like other Leos because his moon is the opposite of his sun sign.

    I love astrology,it's very interesting.Actually I can know when someone is a Sag,a Gemini and sometimes a Leo.I try guessing,too :D

    Cool d:

  2. Well, the Sun sign is a very important sign, and is essentially at the center of your being. It is you, and the other signs are what add the 'flavour' so to speak, and make up what makes you unique. It's more complicated than just guessing the Moon and Sun signs. First of all, a person with the same Moon sign, but different signs in the chart, will be different, even if they also have the same Sun. The signs fall into different houses as well, so one person might have Moon in the 1st house, which would show up in the way they project themselves, and another might have it in the 7th, which would relate more to partnerships...etc. So, with all of the different Signs, and all of the different houses, it can make things quite different. Then you also have the aspects. For example, the Moon could be square to the Sun, which would make the thoughts and feelings of the person in question at odds...So you have all of these aspects and house placings to take into consideration, when you add it all together, it becomes so complex that unless you really know what you're doing, it's hard to guess anything. Then you also have to take into consideration which houses falls where in relation to your Ascendant, so you have that in the 1st house, and then the opposite sign in the 7th house etc...So all of that plays a role.

Yes, I agree that the Sun, Moon, and Ascendant are very important signs in general, and are normally the most evident in the personality at first glance. The Asc. is the mask, and it is how one projects themselves, and appears to others, so on a basic level, there are times when you can guess the Ascendant, and even the Sun. Some people are more obviously like their Suns than others, and that's where the house placings, degrees, and aspects come into play. So while the Sun is essentially the center and the most important sign, enough aspects can drown out it's affect...You can make observations, and there may be a few similarities between people of the same Sun signs, but you'll find that there are also enough differences that it's very hard to guess. I know this from my own experience and observation in others, especially those of my own Sun.

  3. No.Sun signs mean nothing when compared to the other planetary aspects in the chart. But thats the mask we are wearing. And mask is the first thing that gets noticed.I know lot of people who look like their rising signs, behave like their sun signs(on a surface level) but are totally different people deep within. I am a Sagittarius and if you see me you will bet I am not a Sagittarius. The ninth and tenth house trick works well with most people.

  4. This question makes me think of that old joke about three blind men and an elephant.  Each is touching a different part of the elephant.  The one holding the tail thinks it is a rope.  The one holding the foot thinks it is a tree.  The one with the trunk thinks it is a snake.  NONE of them have the big picture.  Without the entire chart you can't really get an idea of the whole personality.

Astrology is a fascinating subject that can give psychological insights when studied and applied properly.

Sun Signs are mostly useless on their own.  Like knowing 1+1 =2 and not bothering to go past that.

  5. I'm Leo.(2) Sun and Moon ruled, but ,Cancer Sun-sign,I'm not outgoing like other Leo's ,I'm different, just me,I like easy and quite time and life.and I preferred to be alone,

  6. wow definetly an interesting question, don't know much about sun/moon signs I do however know that I am a Gemini(yeah baby the twins RULE!) and I do have 2 very unique and different sides to my personality, I refer to them as light/dark and I suppose my sun/moon signs would be apparent whenever different things happen, like as in my reaction. It would be interesting to meet someone like you who would be able to point out my sun/moon signs as I have just been too lazy to read up on them

  7. I was a dental hygienist for 20 years and my husband was a dentist for about 30.  One of the things we used to do to keep from going nuts in the dental office was to try to guess the sun signs of patients--just from conversation and from observing how they reacted to certain situations.  Pretty often we'd be right on target.  There are some (like Leos) who are quite easy to pinpoint, but others can be more subtle and difficult to get correct.

The rising sign, I think, is the aspect that can really make the difference.  This is how we want the world to view us.  In regard to Leos, I read a description of a person with Leo rising where they said he was " a Leo on purpose", as opposed to someone who is born with that sun sign and can't help but have those characteristics.  In other words, the rising sign Leo would act more Leo than the actual Leo!  I thought that was a great way to put it.

  8. Hi Lencow:-)

You sort of gave me deja vu with this one, because I remember asking this question once.

The sun is our source of energy and also our source of life. Without it we could not survive. I know that there are some on this forum which might possilby disagree with that. I think that many would not though.

Anyhow, from what I gathered when I asked the question, the sun would indicate what a person desires from life. If everything was exactly the way you wanted it to be in your life, you would be both expressing and experiencing nothing but your sun sign. You would also be very one-dimensional, and probably life would be really boring. So of course, there are other objects in the chart to consider, which will either be in harmonious aspect to the sun, or in adverse aspect, or possibly neither.  The thing that places the sun above the rest of them though, is that none of the other influences would even be relevant without the sun. Why would you need to express emotion, or think, or love if you didn't have life? You wouldn't. When you look at astrological charts all of the time, and think of most things, or even many things, in an astrological context, it's easy to forget that we are not the center of all of this. We aren't in the center of the galaxy, we aren't even in the center of our solar system. Our planet revolves around the sun, and so do our lives. Everything that we do is ultimately motivated by our desire to achieve that perfect state of harmony and balace where we could express our sun signs in their purest, highest form.
