  1. I haven't heard of the case that you write of.  But I would take it with a grain of salt - along with plain common sense and just be aware of where the produce that you buy is coming from - and if you really are comfortable with that countries standards for raising crops.

Fact is that many things that are allowed in countries outside of the United States are not allowed within this country - but the NAFTA agreement made a loophole that many such standards while illegal to be done within the United States - things coming into the United States are not held to that same standard.  That can and is a problem we are finding out when it comes to food.

After the initial scare on the news about the problems with them in the United States - the continued story didn't get the coverage that the first coming out did.  They really started looking into the problem - and couldn't find any problems with the crops in the United States - but sure found problems with products that came into the United States.  Of course - that didn't close the door to the problems - just now we know that there is a problem - that doesn't seem like anyone is addressing.

My suggestion - know what your eating and where it comes from.  If your not comfortable with eating it - don't eat it.

  2. It's all the mexican tomato farmers using human sewage as fertilizer.

  3. No. They are fine. Watch out for bad looking tomatoes. Just don't eat like 10 whole tomatoes unless in different forms.

  4. There's a major outbreak of food poisoning, and tomatoes are suspected as the cause, along with certain peppers.

There's a good article at eHow that explains how to stay safe when shopping for tomatoes and eating them.  You should check it out:

How to Eat Tomatoes and Stay Safe

In particular, it says that washing or cooking won't help keep you safe, and it's best to avoid contaminated produce in the first place.

    Hope that helps.

  5. Mine are not. Garden fresh, not that Wallmart garbage.

  6. Yikes! Hopefully not.  I eat tons of tomatoes in various forms.

  7. I hope not, I'm sure it will just all blow over. Tomatoes are so good, they cannot go bad!! I guess if gets worse we're gonna have to start growing our own.
