Are the uk people informed enough to decide on the EU ?

I think that the main 3 political partys should be involved in this vote as it is so important, I for one havent a clue about the EU and I am Mr average.

Yes this person is. I made it my business to find out! The information is out there,its entirely up to you to find it. The Constitution is on line,as is an EU dictionary to help with EU language. It takes a lot of time so be prepared. If you are interested in your country's future and who will be governing you,I suggest you take the time. The E.U. is utterly and totally useless.

They can`t agree on anything without some Mickey Mouse country crying because they can`t have their own way.

I do not think the general public has any idea about EU except for what they read in the tabloids. That is why Gordon Brown will not call a referendum on the issue( and i don,t blame him ) because he knows most people have been brainwashed by The Sun and other toilet paper tabloids.

When i voted NO to go into the EU,many years ago,i have not met one person who said yes for entry.

I still think we were twisted by it all and will voting against for

something i hate make any difference ? no the so called

What vote?

There is no plan for a vote. You won't have a say.

Mr Brown refuses to let the country have one - mainly because he has assured that other member countries that UK will join up.

He - probably rightly - thinks that UK  citizens would vote NO if asked to give their views on giving up British sovereignty and control over important things like law and order and taxation.

Of course we aren't well enough informed, if we were we would all vote NO given the chance. Let me let you all into a little secret.  Have you ever wondered why in the past few Budgets VAT on a few items has been reduced from 17.5% to 5% (condoms, nicotine patches, etc.) ? Of course you haven't because I don't suppose the vast majority of the British public is that bothered about the contents of the Budget and certainly not about a subject as boring as VAT.

Well you bloody well should be because the reason for these reductions is that we are being softened up for the time when the zero rate of VAT currently applied to food, transport, childrens clothes, books, etc. will be replaced by a 5% rate and after that, who knows? And why? Because the Government has signed up to the European view that a positive rate of VAT should be applied to everything VATable.  When it's introduced it will of course be those nasty Europeans who have imposed it upon us but don't be fooled - we (or at least our Government on our behalf) agreed to it and it's our Government that will benefit from most of the additional tax take while being able to blame someone else for the bad news.  Are we all in favour of Europe now when it's likely that in the not too distant future the cost of necessaries will increase by 5% overnight?

I do not think we are all informed very well, I am sure the info is out there somewhere, where exactly it is I have no idea

we only hear what they want us to hear and that is the issue that worries me most, I have very little faith or trust in Politicians left to be honest and I fear that what ever is decided by them on our behalf, has been badly considered, I do believe some very inteligent people are looking at it and making assumptions as to what it means to the country.

Unfortunately, I have found in most cases with the brainy elite is who ever wins is smug and the rest sit back and say told you so, when things go wrong, these people do not have our best interests at heart, they just want to be right.

I really would just like someone to sit on telly one day and broadcast the facts in laymans terms to us, if it is to complicated for us mere mortals to undersatnd then I suggest we put it in the BIN as the only people that will benifit from it are the lawyers that can charge us £10,000 an hour to explain why we are not good citizens of europe and we should do what ever the idiot in charge this week decides it means

People in the UK are not only uniformed about the EU, they are misinformed.  Tabloids tend to pick massive pieces of c**p that legislators cut out before an EU directive is made.

Watch QI on BBC2 tonight at 10pm, its a European special and they have a Eurobluff round which will show you some examples.

Just to give you an idea.  Ireland has the highest rate of knowledge on the European Union, it also has the highest positive view of the EU.

Yes. Is the short answer. We are all capable of seeing that with Billions of our money being thrown away to Brussels, where it is lost in accounts that are so bad that the accountants still have to sign off the last 10-15 years, while our roads, hospitals, schools, pensions and local services are failing through this want of cash.

Brussels now wants to set tax and thus take all and hand out pocket money. The sooner we have a referendum on membership the better, before the immigrants from Europe become the majority and we are a minority in our own country. Their visiting drivers don't bother to fit headlamp deflectors while here and that is the attitude of most continentals to this country, s***w you.

Vested interests will swing us every which way,you cannot exist alone these days,you have to go for it and see.The free movement of jobseekers to anywhere they like can only be a big plus.One currency is a great thing for the working man,you have your own EURO COIN just the same as the old pound,and you can see price changes and differences wherever you go,dead easy.Plus ,no exchange rate rip offs.

probably not.  Thats why the government don't want a referrendum on the constitution.  It would just turn into a vote on the EU rather than what is actually in the EU constitution (or the European convention in its current guise)

To ADZE - well, I voted YES in May 1976 because we were informed [wrongly] that joining the 'Common Market' would be good for jobs and good for the economy!  Well, that was what I voted YES for, not a European Union [which none of us have voted for]  Now the Parliament and Commission and all the hangers on are no more than an expensive 'past time' mainly for failed politicians like Neil Kinnock and his wife [please! not even been an MP in the UK] and Chris Patten and Johnny Prescott - give me strength!  Just wait for Cherie and Tone to take their places - it's only a matter of time.  Now I don't know anyone who wants to stay in the European Union except government employees who are on the gravy train and politicians.  No wonder the money for Education and Health never reaches the coal face!  I've read 'The Great Conspiracy' and I am informed of the facts - suggest you read it too.  Oh forgot to mention - they haven't had their Annual Accounts signed off for years because the Auditors won't take responsibility for the figures!
