Are the wall adapters in Costa Rica the same as in America?

I need to know so I can know if I need to by a converter for my ipod wall charger.

  1. The plugs and voltage is the same BUT  most sockets are for 2 pronged plugs (except in some hotels and upscale condos).  If you bring an adapter for your 3 pronged plugs you will be fine anywhere.  You can get these adapters for around a dollar in the U.S. in places like Target, Walmart and many supermarkets.


  2. In most hotels and hostels, the wall outlets are the same as American ones.  

    However, the norm in Costa Rica are outlets that are different.  

    You could call ahead to your hotel and ask them specifically.  Or, if you are not sure where you will be staying, or if you will be renting a house, you should bring an adapter.  

    I lived there and rented a normal home.  We just brought a couple American power strips, adapters for those, and then plugged all appliances with American plug prongs into those.  Just an idea depending on what your actual plans are :-)
