  1. Simple answer: they are most likely not the same (the cable construction is usually somewhat different), BUT they can be interchanged and will work (although with slight degradation of a component video connection).

The red/white/yellow are INTENDED for stereo analog audio (red/white) and composite video (yellow 75 ohm coaxial). The red/white and yellow are not necessarily the same and therefore won't work quite as well as true component cables (which should be electrically identical with tight tolerance on impedence).

The red/blue/green cables are 75 ohm coaxial video cables, and other than the colour (which is simply to facilitate proper connection) the 3 cables should be identical. Component does not carry audio, so you will need a separate connection for that.

While your standard TV can't display HD you will get a better picture from a component connection than composite, and while you can get away with using red/white/yellow cables you may get a slightly better picture from proper component cables ... particularly if you are running long cables.

  2. no

yellow is for composite video and red & White for audio input

  3. I dont think so. The red, green and blue are for HDTV connections. For example, my xbox 360 runs on a HDTV so i plug in all 6 connectors so that the HD works. If you use just the normal AV cables (red, yellow and white) then you get a standard picture. In short, dont plug in the HDTV cables unless it's a HDTV; otherwise it'll wreck your television!

  4. I think what you want to know is can you use the red white, and yellow cables in place of the YPb component cables. The answer is you shouldn't. The component cables (red, green, blue) are made for video and are shielded much better. You'll get a signal with the red, white and yellow (composite) cables but will likely have distortion and picture problems. You can use the component cables in place of the composite cables if you like.

  5. No they're not the same, the YPbr ext. are Component cables. They are only video cables and they do give you better picture quality than the RCA cables. You will still need audio cables, Optical cable or just the Red/White. The order for best quality is RCA,S-Video,Component,DVI, then HDMI.

Hope this helps gives you a better idea.
