  1. Unfortunately it will take you running more in order for you body to adapt to the conditions of running. Breathing pure Oxygen before would help for a minute, maybe, but it is the buildup of Lactic acid in your muscles that makes you tired. As you run your body will become more efficient at getting rid of that and also convert the muscle to a more efficient kind of muscle. That will take time and effort. If you will lose weight then your muscles won't have to carry the load so you won't get tired so fast.

  2. Breathe slowly and deeply from your belly rather than rapid and shallow from your chest.

If you can run at a slower pace where you're not running out of breath and gasping for air, you'll be able to run longer too. For most recreational runners, this is referred to as conversational pace -- you go slowly enough that you could still carry on a conversation while running without utterly gasping for air. Many beginning runners push themselves too hard (and breathe too shallow), they enter an anaerobic zone, have lactic acid buildup, and tire. If you can stay aerobic (conversational pace and slow, deep breathing), you'll last longer.

You'll get better at it with practice, too. It might not be a bad idea to work on running on your own a bit outside of football practice.
