Are their any famous 19th or 20th century modernist artists that use dark paints or paint in shades of grey?

or black, but i don't want cubism or arcitecture, because i have to copy the art style in an art project and i can't find any help in books

Georges Rouault outlined his work with black lines, with strong (but easy to copy) bright colours.  Also have a look at Mondrian, as his geometrical work would be easy to copy.
