Despite that I live in NY, it's pretty rare that I go into the city, last time I went it was last year and I only stayed there for 35 minutes because I had business to deal with, and I left right away. Now I finally have the opportunity, to go out to Manhattan

for fun.

Friday I'm going to the city and I'm spending the whole day, so do any of you know of some really good Diners and Restaurant to go to.

Nothing to fancy, but nothing like a fast food place.

Someplace nice, with good food, and even nicer atmosphere.

  1. hello - depends what area you will be in - upper east or upper west side both have sarabeths, which is very nice.  downtown has a few nice places on greenwich.

look on menu-pages.com by location and you can see menus in advance and prices etc.

    enjoy!

  2. Blue Smoke (Danny Meyer BBQ) 27th near Lex.

I love Danny Meyer's other restaurants. But the Shake Shack is overrated. I laugh at the people who wait on the line for a half hour or more. It is in beautiful Madison Square Park, however.

  3. ShakeShack is a Danny Meyer restaurant outdoors in the Southeast corner of Madison Square Park at Madison Ave and 23rd St. Shake Shack burgers and hotdogs (Chicago-style) are definitely NOT fast food. There is usually a long line which is part of the coolness factor. Once you eat the shackshack burger you will be hooked. You can check the queue length on their website but, weather-permitting, it is always worth the wait. The line is long for a reason. http://shakeshacknyc.com/camera.html

As far as diners go, Moonstruck is good food, large portions at a decent price. There are a few throughout the City. I eat at the one on 38th and Madison.

  4. Ellen Stardust--really cute retro 50's style diner where they sing to you.

    650 Broadway, New York 10019

    at 51st St.

  5. Buppa Gump...in Times Square, you can't really miss it.

    Calle Ocho...82nd Columbus Avenue

    Ruby Foo...Times Square too
