After seeing this video http://www.meat.org/index-1.asp?c=mymba0508

I've decided that I don't neccessarily want to eat most meats anymore (not because I care about the animals, they just looked diseased). i think it would be kind of hard to not eat any meat because my favorite food is Steak-Outs cheeseburgers. Do you know of any good tasting vegetarian foods. Also how do you feel about the video?

  1. try the "fake" meats... the soy products... they make burgers, hot dogs, chicken, sausage, etc. etc. etc.... just try different types different ways... dont' have one thing one way and decide you hate veggie foods... be open minded adn try different stuff and i'm sure you'll find stuff you like.

  2. well thanks for being honest! well me too, the video is heart-renching but i dont eat red meat for nutritional reasons...you should try the organic food section next to the veggie section too. and just google vegetarian foods for great recipes and alternatives.

  3. Not really...keep eatin' those amazing meaty cheeseburgers!

  4. yes ! chinese food has alternatives to meat like crispy tofu, also falafel kebabs are good, and indian  lentil currys

  5. Michaelangelo's eggplant lasagna, it's declicious and has 4 different types of cheese in it

  6. hey...i've never seen the video, but i do know there's tons of great tasting vegetarian food out there...Veggie burgers of all different brands are really good, just load them up with everything you would put on a normal burger...Morning star farms brand makes really good "chicken" nuggets and other "meat" products that are actually made out of texturized vegetable protein (if you overcook them by just a little bit the texture is more meatlike because they get a little bit stiff)...They taste a lot like real chicken. While veggie hotdogs aren't my favorite, veggie corndogs are delicious and taste exactly like regular corndogs (and i do mean exactly...i wouldn't be able to tell the difference if it weren't for the box.) Just look for meat substitutes at any grocery store...they really are pretty good. Vegetable and fruit dishes are really good too, you just have to be creative so that you aren't just eating salad all day everyday. If you really wanna do the whole veg thing, definitely get some cookbooks, and maybe find some new, different vegetables that you didn't know you liked before (quinoa, for ex...never heard of it before i became a veg but it's really good.) Pastas are easy to do vegetarian, and a lot of mexican food can be done veg. too. Among your basic fast food restaurants, taco bell has the best selection of fast food for vegetarians. And if you find you simply can't live without meat, but are still concerned about how healthy the meat you eat is, check out your local health and organic food grocery stores; buying organic meat and humanely raised meat is kinda expensive, but is really the only way you can know for sure that the meat you eat comes from healthy, happy, well-treated animals.

good luck! it's really pretty easy...just takes some getting used to and extra balancing of nutrients. make sure you get enough protein...

    : )

  8. yes I agree its an ugly fate for animals that are used for food they call it nature people have the right to live the life they choose I love my veggies and would not have a problem living without meat there's lots of options out there. my thoughts on that video is they where using the worst of the worst any farmer that cares about there business would not be torturing like that cause the shock would make the meat tough, chickens cant lay eggs in those conditions, and milk would be sour and for pigs a cows they weren't even being butchered properly. those places being shot where most likely under investigation and shut down.

  10. veg fruit nuts and QUORN yay!   it rules although depend what type its amazing though overall

  11. Factory farms are gross and eating vegetarian is great!  If you still want to eat meat occasionally, buy "free range" meats and eggs and eat out at restaurants that serve things like this (very hard to do sometimes depending on where you live).  Alternatives are, if you live where there are deer, is locally hunted venison which is made into many things (most tack shops can direct you to a local meat processor or smoke house). Fish is also a nice way to get protein.

If you live in farm country and see beef cattle being raised the right way, never hurts to stop and ask someone out working on the farm, who sells their beef when the cows go to slaughter. Some farms takes yearly orders for fresh beef.

Morningstar makes decent fake meat and Trader Joe's (if you have one) has great frozen stuff too. Indian food has lots of tasty vegetarian recipes, go to the library and get a book out on it. Also, just about any Asian stiry-fry recipe can be used with firm tofu in place of chicken or pork.

  12. OMG the best thing ever, and it;s so easy and fairly cheap is vegetarian/vegan stir-fry.

Just cut up a bunch of veggies, or get the frozen variety that's already cut up if you're in a hurry, chop some firm tofu into strips, and put in a big wok with a bit of olive oil and any kind of sauce you like ( I use Terayaki!) for half an hour on high.

    It's SOO good :)

Also, smoothies are  great (soy milk if vegan.).

  13. That video is an eye-opening one and it's the reason I became vegetarian. Unfortunately, the vast majority (~98%) of animals are confined to factory farms. The video depicts the rule, rather than the exception.

There are all kinds of fake meats available these days. Some brands taste better than others, so I suggest doing some taste testing. My favorites are:

    Nate’s Meatless Meatballs

    Gardenburger Meatless Riblets

    Gardenburger Flame Grilled Chik’n

    Tofurky Deli Slices

    Boca Chik’n Patties

Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Chik’n Strips

Lightlife—Smart Bacon (make sure you fry it on both sides until it turns crispy, or it won't taste good)

This site has a list of other popular faux meats:

Vegetarian foods -- refrigerated and frozen:

    Good luck.

  14. I get really bent out of shape when I watch what happens in the meat industry. I have chosen not to eat meat and love lots of vegetarian foods. They don't taste like meat, so if that is what you are looking for you won't find it. I would suggest for you to buy compassionate meat products, their standards will be higher. Whole Foods has really high standards for the meat that they sell. If you live near one that could be an alternative... They also have lots of great vegetarian foods and are really helpful in teaching you how to prepare it.

  15. Tons!  There are all sorts of analogues--veggie burgers, veggie dogs, veggie deli slices, veggie brats, veggie stir-fry strips made to resemble "beef" and "chicken," etc.  Amy's Kitchen is a favorite brand among vegetarians.  I just saw she has a quarter-pound "burger".  I have yet to try it, but I'm a fan of her Texas Burger.  If you're going to be ovo-lacto vegetarian, you can just top that with a bit of cheese.

There are numerous vegan online retailers out there that offer all sorts of good foods (at least here in the U.S.).   www.happycow.net and www.vegdining.com will direct you to vegetarian restaurants and health food stores all over the world.

I love tofu--it takes some practice, but it's all about the texture; tips for avoiding mushy tofu are in my profile.  It's rather bland and will take on the flavor of foods cooked with it.  I also love seitan, a.k.a., wheat meat (contact me if you want hints on making your own).  It's really chewy and makes really good chops.  But do NOT get the store-bought stuff, as you don't get a lot of bang for your buck, and it doesn't taste very good.

And if you like fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, and nuts, you're in luck.  You can make grain pilafs, steam vegetables, stir-fries (with tofu, tempeh or the aforementioned meal starter strips), casseroles--check out www.vegweb.com for recipes.
