Question:

Are their short-term versions of the Peace Corps program?

I am wondering if there are federally-sponsored foreign engagement programs similar to the Peace Corps that are much shorter in duration, such as a summer or a semester? I am a full-time college student with strict active-duty military commitments after I graduate, so I am unable to do a normal Peace Corp tour. However, I am very interested in doing this type of work if I can do it over a summer or during a semester. Do these shorter-term programs exist?

  1. Probably not with the US Government.

    Check out:

    tUnited Nations

and a ton of other NGO's.

A good place to start is:

    www.idealist.org.

But you may have to pay to volunteer which is silly.

  2. There might be. Try looking up different things online.

  3. Not if you want to travel and have them pay for it. You can volunteer inside the USA through several government and a host of private programs. You can buy a "vacation with work" deal from lots of places; you pay for your travel, room and board, but you paint an orphanage instead of drinking shots by the pool.

BTW you mistyped "there" and it makes your question ambiguous.  "their short-term versions of the Peace Corps program" sounds like one or both of the presidential candidates had such a proposal.

To whoever gave me a thumbs down: Sorry you don't like my prose style. It isn't going to change. The US Government isn't going to fly people to Peru and give them 3 months of training so they can work for two weeks, either. You can write to me via my profile if you want.
