Question:

Are their websites designated especially for children that are adopted?

With all the recent questions about adoption loss, I really started thinking about my son and how he is handleing his loss. He has not spoke to me about his original mother in some time. I now this does not mean he doesn't think about her because he talks about her regularly to his counselor.

We live in a relatively small (and ignorant) community when it comes to adoption. We do not have any type of support groups for adoptive parents or children. So, I was thinking of directing him towards some websites where he can see that his situation is not so unique. Sometimes he feels like he is the only one that has ever been adopted because he only knows one person in our community that was adopted.

  1. Hi Heather,

This was the only one I could find!

I'll keep looking and see what else I can find!

ETA3: Oh! I didn't realize he was a teen! I thought he was younger!

Are a few. I think Yahoo also has a group for teen adoptees! I hope your son finds a couple that he likes! (and you approve of!! )

  2. i am the same way.

im 14 years old and i was adopted.

im the only person in my school that was adopted but i recently got in touch with someone that was adopted too so we have a lot in common.

sometimes i feel like no one understands me and my mom would kill me if she heard me say this but i have a longing to meet my real mother.

but, im still proud and i love my mom but i do admit, i sometimes feel as if im not really her child or part of the family.

its just something we, adopted kids, just feel. (on occasion)

oh last thing, if my mom gave me adoption websites i would feel very unhappy because i would feel like she doesnt really feel as if im her daughter and thinks i need special attention for being adopted.

just a warning... he might feel otherwise

  3. I'm not sure how old your son is...

This is a great forum for adoptees.  There is a teens-only section.

Good luck to you and your son
