I can't eat gluten and have been around a lot of fish and chip shops who always seem confused whenever I ask them about gluten in their food. They should really know about it and be prepared for questions about it. I just stick to the chips.

Try the cooper kettle on the main road, they do a lot of vegetarian stuff and seem eager to accommodate customers, so the may help you out.

My son used to be on a gluten free diet, so if we were having fish and chips from anywhere, we just asked for his fish to be cooked without batter  We never had anywhere refuse and it solved the problem.
