The last I'd survived (in E.U.) was a

7.4 on Richter Scale

and it kept a very long continuous time (~ few MINUTES),

in 1977, the 4th of March.

Lots of houses were ruined that time and lots of people died, almost the same as now in China.

I recolect the walls were terrible waving and huge crackings from the walls were heard from all over when my mother came and laid over me moment I couldn't see nothing but felt the strong balancing & smashing which where like never ending.

  1. Australia is in the middle of a tectonic plate and the edges of its plate are out to sea, passing through islands like New Zealand. due to this, there are very few earthquakes in Australia and those that are experienced are generally so weak that they go unnoticed. that isn't to say that there are no earthquakes in Australia, just very few and most are negligible. to chancea of a 7.4 quake in Australia is so small as to be nonexistent

  2. yes and here's the chart of them to show you. in '87 they had a 5.6 in newcastle, that one I happened to see from another site.

  3. it rarely occurs. However there was a earthquake in Newcastle which is city on the east coast of Australia which measure about 5.7 on the richter scale which was enough to bring some buildings down. I think this was in 1989.

However if there was an earthquake above 7  then it would do serious damage as most residential house's lets say in NSW are not built to tolerate earthquakes because they are so rare.
