Question:

Are there Flight Stopover fees?

My mom and I are planning on going to Tokyo and Vietnam in December. I found good tickets on the offical United Airways website and was given a total. I'm not sure if there's any stop over fees included or at all though. I read the "fare rules" but it wasn't clear enough. I really don't want any bad surprises when I'm on my supposed-to-be-amazing trip!

This is the ticket schedule: Start in Toronto then there's a layover in Washington D.C then from there fly to Tokyo. Then I'm going to stay there for 3 days and then fly to Ho Chi Minh City and stay there for a couple of weeks and fly back with a layover in Hong Kong and Chicago before arriving back in Toronto.

So would I have to pay any additional fees for any of these layover/plane changes?

  1. There is frequently additional airfare or stopover charges if you make additional stopovers enroute and you are flying on a discounted fare. Discount fares are typically valid only to and from your final destination.

If you entered the dates on the website as described above, then the airfare shown on the website should have included all fees and taxes. There will be nothing extra. If you priced it as a connection in Tokyo but have decided since to stay there, then the price will probably go up when you decide to buy it.

If you have not bought your tickets yet, then you should be aware that the price can change at any time until you pay for your tickets. The price that was originally quoted may be different than the price that is in effect when you make your purchase.

  2. if you did it should have been included in the total fee when you purchased it online. so no.

  3. no....
