My cousins live at the very end (we are visiting them soon) and they own some of the ocean (were we can swim) and I want to know if there were any.

  1. I live in long Island and there isnt really any sharks  around here at all. I have never seen one swimming in the ocean. But if you go really far out there is some. No you cant swim that far out. You need to take a boat and drive for hours in the ocean to get to them.

  2. Sand tiger sharks, actually.  And yes, there are some in Long Island Sound, but the last attack by a sand tiger on a human in the Sound was more than 40 years ago.

Brown, blue, mako, thresher, and the occasional hammerhead have also been sighted in the area, primarily near the narrow entry channel at the Sound's eastern end.

For reference, sharks generally tend to favor warm, shallow, clear water with plenty of smaller fish for them to eat.  Unfortunately for us, this makes beaches ideal for them.
