I was told that getting a vegiterian food in Germany is like seeing an unicorn. Is that true? My friend is travelling in the Europe during July second half. He is a vegeterian and will he have trouble in getting his choice of food? Will Vegiterian food be expensive?

Here is a list of numbers to AVOID when you are a vegan: All numbers begin with E- (see what these numbers stand for at: www.food-info.net/uk/qa/qa-fi45.htm): 101, 101a, 120, 153, 161b, c, f, g, 252, 270, 280, 281, 282, 283, 302, 322, 325, 326, 327, 341a, b, c, 375, 404, 408, 422, 430, 431, 432, 433, 434, 435, 436, 470, a, b, 471, 472, a, b, c, d, e, f, 473, 474, 475, 476, 477, 478, 479, 481, 482, 483, 485, 491, 491, 491, 494, 495, 542, 570, 572, 585, 626, 627, 629, 630, 631, 633, 634, 635, 640, 901, 913, 920, 921, 1105, 1518

  14. German cuisine is meat heavy, but there are plenty of options for vegetarians. And I'm not just talking about salads and side dishes. Most cities do have very good vegetarian restaurants with a broad variety of food. Most of these restaurants also cook with just organic ingredients if that would be a concern of your friend. You can also find a lot of farmers markets around to buy fresh fruits for snacks. Or your friend can visit one of the many organic stores in Germany. They offer a great variety of vegetarian/ vegan products and snacks. Some of them even offer lunch. As for most other countries in Europe, they all offer vegetarian foods, you might just have to search for it from time to time. Like mentioned above, the eastern countries of Europe might be a bit more challenging for your friend. But with some time and effort you can find a nice variety of vegetarian dishes as well.

I hope your friend will have a great time in Europe.

  15. Although German cuisine is heavy on meats especially pork, there are vegetarian options available. And since the vegetarian philosophy is pretty well known and generally accepted in developed countries, there are bound to be vegetarian friendly restaurants. He can ask his hotel concierge or the local tourist board to help him.
