  1. If they don't know Greek it only depends if they want to learn it or not. When they want to learn it they must spend some time on it. Then they can join regular classes.

It's expensive and no nothing to do with who's a citizen and who's not. Everybody must pay.

  2. There are private schools for English speaking children like the American Community School (ASC), St.Catherine's, St.Lawrence and Campion that all the lessons are in English  They all offer IB. (For the last 2 years of school). IB is also offered by most of the private schools.

The problem is that all private schools cost about 8000-10000 euros/year (13000- 15500 USD/year)

  3. There are approximately 80,000 Americans living in Greece of 1.2 million immigrants, and a total population of 12 million including everyone. Pan T is correct in saying there are plenty of American private schools speaking only English, not just in Athens but in other cities and small towns as well. There are also Montessori schools all over Greece, in case you're interested. However they are incredibly expensive as both Pan and Conradi say. Private school means just that; no public assistance, same as America. Only public schools are free, same as America.

Kids are like sponges from what I've seen. They learn the Greek language more quickly than adults, and it's a very enriching experience as long as you encourage them.

  4. Nai, there is one I know of in Athens, Devree University, my cousin goes there! Kali Epitixia lol !

  5. It depends on where you are living. If you live in Athens, it will not be easy to find other Americans living there, but it won't be impossible. If you want to send your children to school in Greece, and they dont' speak Greek, well, they will in a few months. As far as I know, the elementary school kids learn English as a second language, but most of the instruction is in Greek.

There are public and private schools there, and I hear that they can get quite expensive. It has nothing to do with your citizenship,
