Are there advantages to neoprene life jackets?

Yesterday i was at d**k's Sporting Goods, and came across neoprene life jackets. They seem to be of the same material as Koosh stress balls, but are USCG Approved. Very comfortable, a bit pricey though.

So are there advantages to this material over the more traditional vest?

  1. No real advantage to them, just "trendy".  The neoprene doesn't breathe very well, and you tend to sweat a lot in them, and once it's wet, it doesn't dry very fast.  There are much better materials out there, but I guess they're not as "cool".  I wouldn't own one..but that's me.

  2. most composition wake boarders use them, because of the comfort. but also because they are lite and easy to move in. they are no good for actually saving you life. they just use them because it is a law to wear them.

notice how the expensive ones are like a thin as a sweat shirt

  3. comfort and the cool factor is all.
