  1. Basques look like gypsies? Stupiditys.

The only intelligent answer, the Goddnes' one.

    I'm from Spain.

Nd its true, most of them live in the south.

  2. yes.   they are a respectable ethnic group.  They guys you see hawking cheap watches and sunglasses on the beaches are mostly North African immigrants. We have a misconception that they are spanish gypsies. Not true.

  3. Ok spanish gypsies (gitanos) and not the same as english gypsies.

Spanish gypsies originate from egypt. they have tanned skin, wear loads of gold and are famous for their dresses, dancing and their singing.

They are like one big family. the worst possible thing you can do is get in a fight with one because the whole family will be involved.

Our neighbours are gitanos, they are always sitting with us outside our house. I live in malaga

Yer spain is full of gypsies, especially in the cities, they live in the chabolas (houses made out of rubbish, card and pieces of metal)

    Good Luck

  4. Yes. There are a lot of Spanish gypsies but they're been relegated to one of the less numerous ethnic groups, being overwhelmed by the influx of Ecuadorians, Peruvians, and Chinese in recent years. For this reason - and for others - you see fewer or at least a lower percentage of gypsies in the streets selling things or asking for money.

You'll find higher concentrations of them in southern Spain but they live throughout the country.

It's a very closed society too. Oftentimes a non-gypsy is not permitted to live in their neighborhoods or to mix with their children or daughters. As for flamenco performers, most all are gypsies and it can be very very difficult for a non-gypsy to break through to fame no matter how good they are.

  5. Some people consider the Basques to be gypsies. And after all, Basque people do resemble the stereotypical look of a gypsy. I lived in Basque country, and there were always parades and celebrations for the Basque people. I loved it. I wouldn't say that there are a lot of gypsies in Spain, but the Basque lifestyle definitely resembles a gypsy's life.

  6. yeah.  You know flamenco?  national dance/music of Spain?  originated by gypsies.  Yeah, they are there.  What do you expect them to do?

If you are careful, you won't need to worry about pickpockets and the like, and, honestly, while some of them are fairly aggressive about their little scams, they are hardly the most dangerous or worst thieves in the country any longer.  And, while they used to set up and beg outside of the tourist spots, the beggars have been cleaned up as far as I could see.

I never heard that about the Basques, but I doubt there's any real relation...and most of the Gypsies are in Andalucía, not the north, so the woman who lived there, wouldn't have seen as many....go to Granada, to one of the flamenco shows there....all gypsies.  Gypsy caves, gypsy artists, and they are wonderful!
