Are there alternatives to Best Buy's Geek Squad's Optimization services?

I've heard that the Geek Squad does a lot of BS for a new laptop when providing the Optimization services. I was wondering if there are any alternatives, or possibly do-it-yourself websites or guides to optimizing the laptop on my own.

  1. youtube has some good stuff or fire dog

  2. I do very simple things to optimize my laptop for maximum speed and it's still running like new. But, right now Firedog is doing a free computer checkup even if you did not buy it there but for a limited time only.

Things I do first is to remove unnecessary files for more free space.

Then, scan for viruses and spyware with the better detection programs.

Use the disk cleaner option in Windows, My Computer> Right click on (C) and perform a disk cleanup.

Now defragment the hard drive for quicker access.

Once you defragment the hard drive, do the same for the registry for faster start-up.

After doing all those things, remove all the programs you installed for optimizing the computer to how it was like before.
