I am doing a grad school project for the International Lincoln Center at Louisiana State University in Shreveport. The assignment is to locate evidence of Abraham Lincoln's legacy abroad. Perhaps surprisingly, many countries have honored Abraham Lincoln with statues, streets, and buildings named for him. To learn more about the International Lincoln Center see:

To learn more about the International Lincoln Association, see:

  1. No nothing at all here in NZ!

    Good luck!

  2. No.

  3. We have a Lincoln Collage/University in Christchurch but unsure is it is named after Abe.

  4. I can't click on the links. And what would Abraham Lincoln be doing here? Are you serious?

  5. I do know of 2 towns that have streets called "Lincoln" These are Morrinsville & Picton.

  6. friggin aye, its new zealand we have our own history. may be hard to believe but there is more to the world besides america. we honor our OWN

  7. I never saw anything with Lincoln or anything dedicated to a US President.

Also, for the record, shouldn't the International Lincoln Center be located in Kentucky, not in Louisiana?

  8. Not a single street, statue, park, hall or public convenience. Not a sausage, mate.

Looks we are an Abraham-Lincoln-free zone.

  9. Why would we be celebrating Abraham Lincoln in NZ?  Since when did he ever come here & even if he did what would we care?  Our Prime Minister went to your country last year, are there any streets named after or any statues erected in honour of Helen Clarke?

You Americans really do think you are the whole world now don't you?

Our Lincoln University is named after a place called Lincoln in the UK, which makes sense when you consider we are a Commonwealth country, not a state of the USA.

  10. nah don't think so

  11. I can't find anything about Lincoln related memorials, howeverm the suburb of Brooklyn in Wellington has a lot of US associated names. I have C+P the relevant info.

New Zealand’s curiosity about things American in the 19th century led to a Wellington suburb being named after the famous borough of Brooklyn in New York. Some of the streets were named after American presidents, including McKinley, Taft and Cleveland. The large park separating Brooklyn from the city was, of course, named Central Park. American links with Brooklyn were strengthened when, during the Second World War, an American military camp was established in Central Park.

Lincoln University, incidentally was named after the town in the UK:

The name “Lincoln” comes originally from the Roman name for an area in the north east of England (the Romans invaded Britain in 43AD.) They called it Lindum Colonia meaning “lake colony”. (You can see the “Lin” and “coln” in the Latin words). Today Lincoln in England is a manufacturing city of approximately 80,000 inhabitants.
