Are there any Abraham Lincoln statues or streets in South Africa?

I am doing a grad school project for the International Lincoln Center at Louisiana State University in Shreveport. The assignment is to locate evidence of Abraham Lincoln's legacy abroad. Perhaps surprisingly, many countries have honored Abraham Lincoln with statues, streets, and buildings named for him. To learn more about the International Lincoln Center see:

http://www.lsus.edu/lincoln/

To learn more about the International Lincoln Association, see:

To see what we have found so far see:

  1. Bull take it easy its just a kid doing his homework.

No not that I know of.

But Abraham Lincoln may have influenced our leaders like Nelson Mandela.

In the future I am sure we will have a Lincoln street or Avenue.

You must remember SA has only been a free democratic country for only 14 years.

And there was no way an apartheid government would ever honor great people like Lincoln they just honored themselves.

We may not have statues and streets baring his name but we do recognize that he was a great leader.

  2. I don't see why S.A would have statues of him. He was never associated with S.A.

By the way I don't give a rats-*** about Abraham Lincoln. Why should I learn about American history when you don't know anything about ours. Do you know about The Great Trek, Shaka, or Moshoeshoe or Soshangane?

  3. To my knowledge I don't recall any statues of 'ol Abe in SA.

People in SA would'nt care about the guy anyway. Most people dont even know who he is.

Bull - are you still on about the IQ story. Come off it now. You know that your argument is flawed and that I will blow you out of the water everytime you bring that topic up.

  4. Nope. It's like the US having statues of Paul Kruger. Either of the guys have no relevance to the different countries. So no, there isn't/aren't any.

  5. Hi Instruisto, first of all please ignore the first three posts from your answers- they are indicative of a virulent and ignorant type of South African that give the rest of us a bad name. BULL X is obviously still stuck in apartheid South Africa, his inflated sense of self-importance, racialism and superiority are diametrically opposed to the way most of us feel (and which Lincoln strove to eradicate). Despite the fact that there are, as far as I know, no monuments constructed with brick and mortar or streets that bear his name Lincolns legacy lives on in the spirit of the people who helped transform this country into a democracy.

"Oppressed people in South Africa have always associated the history of the United States with the great name of Abraham Lincoln. There was an issue involving human rights in his day - an issue that challenged the principles enshrined in the Declaration of Independence. To the honour of his name, his people, and his country, Abraham Lincoln translated these great principles into concrete action. "

  6. You Yanks are truly deluded and mind numbingly ignorant, the average South African could care less about Abraham Lincoln and why should he?

How does his so called "legacy" affect the average South African who has never set foot in the U.S. and probably never will?

Abraham Lincoln represents a plague of liberal whites whose legacy as you put it has left the world crippled and in a state of total decay through the abandonment of the natural order, whether that order be slavery or segregation does not matter, what certainly does matter is that Africans are an inferior race as scientifically validated through research into IQ's and behavioral patterns races amongst the various differing races and it should be noted that Africans will always resort to primitive, barbaric and savage behaviour as can be witnessed in any community with a substantial African population, look at U.S. prison demographics as the perfect example.

Abraham Lincoln should have shipped every last black slave back to Africa where they belong had he intended to fall victim to the liberal delusion of equality and forced such a vile legacy upon those who did and still do understand evolution and the place of Africans on the so called evolutionary ladder.
