As some idiot said that Ichiros record should not be counted in Japan towards the hall of fame or should he go on to surpass Gambling Willie rose .

If japan`s league is not as good as the Americans league then surely Ichiro could not do what he does

  1. The single season HR record in Japan was set by Sadaharu Oh in 1964 with 55.  Randy Bass first came closest to threating the record in 1985.  He had 54 HR with one series left but failed to hit #55.  He was walked repeatedly in that final series by a team that was managed by none other than Oh himself.

In 2001 Tuffy Rhodes tied the record on Sept 24.  But did not hit any more in the last two series of the season, one of which was against a team managed by Oh.

In 2002 Alex Cabrera, who used to play for the Diamondbacks, also hit 55 HR in Japan.  He tied the record with 5 games left but once again the final series was against an Oh managed team and he wasn't able to hit another HR.

  2. Tuffy Rhodes put up some impressive numbers over there

  3. The hits that Ichiro had in the Japanese league that he played in do not count toward his MLB career stats, and thus aren't put into consideration for the Hall of Fame. Also, you're thinking of Pete Rose, and Ichiro more than likely won't break Rose's career hits record since he doesn't even have 2,000 hits yet, and he wasn't even the youngest player to reach 1,500 hits last year.
