Question:

Are there any German made bicycles available in the U.S.

I'm interested in cyclocross bikes and wondering if there are any German companies manufacturing them. Germany builds the best mechanical things the world over and I figured it would pertain to bicycles also. I know that there are lots of exceptionally good bicycle makers worldwide, but I'm curious if any of them are made in Germany or if they are a German corporation.

  1. bikes are not machines they are art.

Italian is the way to go if you want the best - and there's no one more passionate about cycling then the italians.

Bianchi is a good place to start but there are others.....

Colnago is posh brand....but not sure they offer a cylecross.

    There are many others.....

For the parts on the bike - it's kinda like a "religion decision" - but there are only 3 real choices - Shimano, SRAM & Campagnalo.

Can you guess the Italian one. : )

Check into cyclecross magazines - goo info there on wht the best is.

  2. Wrong. The Japanese build the best parts. Ever hear of Shimono ? Most bike frames are made in Taiwan.

  3. Try Focus, here is a link:

You may have to play about a bit for the English translation.

We have an Importer here in the UK for Focus bikes, they are top notch cross bikes in Europe!

I have a Focus roadbike and I can tell you from experience they are a very good ride and exceptional value for money. Check them out!

PS. No Carl I have not heard of Shimono - I have heard of Shimano they are a Japanese company but components are made in China.

EDIT: I hate answering a question after a 'thumbs down troll' has visited ! - It wasn't me, I don't give them!

Just to make a point - Although Focus bikes are designed and built to German specifications - The frame, like virtually all carbon frames (even my uberexpensive Cervélo)  are made in the Far East.
