Also how old are you? I'm fourteen and I don't think anyone else my age appreciates Golden Age Hollywood.

  1. I like a number of her films, especially 'Ninotchka' which was very funny.

There probably aren't too many 14 year olds that appreciate her films anymore - the acting style has changed a lot since she was popular.  It speaks highly of you that you're open to different styles of film.

I'm 44 so she was way before my time as well but I also enjoy a lot of films from that period.

Edit:  I also liked Grand Hotel but haven't seen The Kiss or Camille.  Another good one of her's is Queen Christina which is a silent film - very famous shot of her at the end.  Her fiance John Gilbert was her co-star in the film.

  2. That is an excellent question.  I think a lot of younger people don't appreciate the older films.  Garbo among others is almost completely forgotten these days. I would encourage all younger people to watch these older films.  They still hold up today.  Are there any Garbo fans out there?  I certainly hope so.

  3. I bought the Ninotchka DVD last year and watched it again this month, but that's the only Garbo I've seen, so I'm not a real fan.  I wouldn't pass up a chance to see her on the silver screen, though.  (I'm 49.)

Nor have I read the 1995 biography of her written by Barry Paris, but being a fan of Louise Brooks, I did read his biography of HER, and it was excellent.  You might want to check out his "Garbo."

GarboForever.com, out of Germany, has counted more than 442,000 hits (500 in the last 24 hours), so yes, G.G. still draws fans.

Cf. Marlene Dietrich in The Blue Angel (1930).

I saw the original King Kong (1933) at a real movie palace last year, and there were a lot of teenagers in the audience.  Maybe their parents dragged them to it ... but old Kong hooked 'em, and there was a nice atmosphere in the house.

Maybe you could start a "Golden Age Hollywood Club" at school, using Netflix (cheap!) without making any money off the deal.  Ask your favorite teacher.

P.S. See also the FIRST Golden Age of the movies, the silents of the 1920s.

P.P.S. I see from the Answers profile you've posted -- gee, you're longwinded -- that you want a pet cheetah.  Bringing Up Baby (1938) may stoke that desire. ... The Surrealists loved Buster Keaton (One Week, The Balloonatic, Sherlock, Jr., etc.). ... The one role Louise Brooks wanted to play but didn't (and knew she was wrong for) was Lewis Carroll's Alice....
