  1. That goes back to the 15th century, when "pig" was commonly used to describe a person that was generally disliked.

  2. it came into being during the anti war demonstrations of the 60s. originated in a face off in san francisco when a cop hit a demonstrator with a billy-club. someone in the crowd started calling him a pig, the mob took up the chant and the rest is history,,,it stuck.

the "weathermen" (not the ones on tv) took credit for it but they were not yet created.

like the weathermen, the animal farm connection came a year after the fact.

  3. The term has many connotations.

P.I.G. = Pride Integrity and Guts (used during the 60's protesters, Black panthers, SDS, etc)

PIG was the term used by the Hippies. The basis for their usage of the term was and analogy drawn from the book ANIMAL FARM, by George Orwell (1945)(An Intellectual Analogy)

In ANIMAL FARM, the PIGS are the rulers. You Have Old Major, Napoleon, Snowball, Squealer, Minimus, Pigletts and The Rebel Pigs.

The pigs are seen as TOTALITARIAN and thus the drawn inference to PIG.

  4. Because the people who typically have a negative outlook on law enforcement normally have a very limited vocabulary.

  5. Pig=Pride,Integrity.Guts
