I have seasonal allergies, and I am allergect to many things outside such as pollen, dust, grass, tress, etc.

My allergies have been acting up just a little latley, like I have noticed some light drainage, and a little bit of a stuff nose and a light head ache. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with a sharp pain in my throat, it was really bad and I could barley swallow. I know that drainage causes a sore throat and everything so I drank some water to try to hydrate my throat and went back to sleep.

When I woke up in the morning I went to go brush my teeth and my gums never bleed, I take pretty good care of my teeth. I spit in the begining of brushing my teeth and there was no sign of blood or anything. I started caughing a lot because of my throat and the second time I spit (right after caughing) it was almost all blood.

I looked at the back of my throat and it looked a little redder than usual but it didn't seem to be bleeding.

Is this something I should be worried about and go see a doctor?

I had Laryngitis a few months ago and when my troat was bleeding then the doctor just told me to take it easy and it would go away.

I don't want to go all the way to the hospital and miss school if that's all a doctor is going to tell me.

So I would just like to know if I should be worried.

I haven't noticed any blood since then and I have been drinking lots of water to hydrate my throat, and the pain has gone down some.

Thanks to everyone who answers this,

  1. First off, if it is darker blood it is older blood, meaning maybe you coughed it up...that is something to be concerned about... bleeding in your stomach is not healthy... Bright red blood is new blood... since you said you haven't seen it again, I wouldn't be too concerned. If it continues, definitely head over to an ER or Urgent Care. But if it goes away, mention it to your PCP at the next visit... might get ya a new nasal spray or throat spray... But above all else, if you can not stop bleeding, 911 asap!

  2. I'm not too familiar with the allergies but for your mouth I would suggest that you gargle with some Oil of Oregano and (not the gargled) take some Oil of Oregano on a daily basis.

I'm not a med student but in school for Nathopathic studies @ Clayton college of Natural Health .  But that advice is from personal experience with working with herbs.

  3. Dude, chill, take a benadryl or claritin or zyrtec or something and you will feel better.

ps- it's spelled cOughing (with an o) not cAughing
