  1. http://www.imo.net/calendar/2008

2008 Calendar from the International Meteor Organization.

Best place to watch is a dark sky location.  Their home page has all the information that you need on the subject.

When 2009 gets here just change the 8 to a 9 in the address.  Enjoy!

  2. You're in luck.

The next meteor shower is the Perseids, which will peak on the night of August 12, 2008. The moon spoils the view a bit, but after the first-quarter moon sets, around 2 a.m., meteors should be more easily visible until dawn.

If you have the chance, and it's not cloudy, get as far away from civilization as possible, to get to as dark a place as possible. In cities, you have lots of light pollution, so get out into the countryside, or to an empty beach. Look towards the northeast.

If you're a really big fan, you could go sometimes this week and scout out a location and have a look, there should allready be about a dozen shooting stars each hour, more as we get closer the night of August 12th.

After that, you'll have to wait until October 21, for the much less spectacular Orionids.

As a side note, meteor showers are global, we all get to see them, provided they're not to far north or south.
