  2. On the contrary to what a lot of people think there are medical conditions that do cause weight gain. I'm not a doctor but I can tell you that hypothyroidism is definitely one of them. It is a thyroid condition that where you are producing too little of a specific hormone. Your metabolism slows down if not barely seems to exist. Here are some symptoms found from http://www.endocrineweb.com/hypo1.html:

    Fatigue

    Weakness

Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight

    Coarse, dry hair

    Dry, rough pale skin

    Hair loss

Cold intolerance (can't tolerate the cold like those around you)

Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches

    Constipation

    Depression

    Irritability

    Memory loss

    Abnormal menstrual cycles

    Decreased libido

There are other conditions, however I'm not a doctor. I only now of hypothyroidism because I have it. I found this web site that has other conditions you can look at.
