Are there any Terrorism in Spain?

There was a nasty one in Madrid in 2004, not heard of anything else though. Its due to political parties.

Terrorism occurrs all over the world, everywhere except America before 9/11/2001.  It wouldn't have happened here, except too many people were too "cocky" to believe it couldn't happen here.

Terrorist target individuals or groups of individuals.  Anytime any group is present and loud anywhere in the world, they are potential terrorist targets.  This could be a group of Americans in Germany or a group of Islamic visitors in Spain.

The people who make themselves targets are the reason most terrorism occurs.

I realize that the Twin Towers didn't do anything, but that was just an act of show.  They couldn't hurt us anyway else, so they did one big show.  This was America, they had to make it big.  And had to show the US they could do it.

Most acts of terrorism involve only a few dozen to a few hundred people and are targeted specifically at a race, religion, country of origin or military involvement.

PS.  For 25 years, German soldiers carried fully automatic weapons in their airports, and are ready to use them if necessary.  Some America wants to do away with guns.  Hmmmm!!!  Now, what did we have to do at airports because of 9/11?

For years, metal detectors in Germany were 10 times more sensitive that in America.  The foil in the pack of cigarettes or change in the pocket could set it off.  I went through so, so many international airports such as Dallas/Ft Worth and Chicago and never got a beep.

Now, they go overboard because they didn't do enough in the first place.

Slow down, back up, give the guards a few automatic weapons and training.  Tune up the detectors and get a life!

And finally, don't act like an ugly American....here or anywhere else, and you are less likely to be a target.  Americans are taught by the military to "blend in" everywhere.  A whole bunch of "tourists" could learn from that.

Spain has the same terrorist threats as the rest of the western world, that being extreamist al qaeda type factions.

Spain has also had it's own breed of terrorists, these being ETA (Euskadi Ta Askatasuna), Basque  extreamists wanting independence from the rest of Spain.

This group did however declare a permenant cease fire in march of 2006.
