Question:

Are there any UK charities who will accept unwanted electrical goods?

I am moving from a house for which I bought a washing machine and fridge freezer to a new place that has all the appliances built in. I do not have room for the old appliances and since both are in good working order and only 2 years old I'd rather not take them to the tip. I would ideally like to donate them to charity (preferably one which will collect!) or if anyone has any alternatie ideas about what could be done with them I'd be grateful. Many thanks.

  1. British Heart foundation shops

if you phone the nearest one they can usually collect

  2. Age Concern

  3. Post them on Freecycle.org, they will find a home, this is a site where you can give away anything you do not need, most people who use it do the same when getting rid of things to stop them going to landfill etc.

  4. No UK charities can accept unwanted electrical goods because they need to be Patt tested for health and safety and that is quite expensive to do. It is illegal to sell un tested electrical goods in the UK.

There is a charity that Patt tests and  mends these goods, try your local council for more information?
