What are the advantages of doing an MSc in medical science (two years) and then applying to medical school afterwards? I am forced to take this route and I am wondering if it will be beneficial to my studies at all. I just seems like a huge 2 year gap before I can even apply to med.My GPA was ok (almost 3.8), but my mcat went horribly and I didn't want to wait a year not doing anything, so I am re-writing.

  1. An advanced degree will not benefit you if you apply to a primary care oriented school.  It might even work against you.  But it is a definite asset if you apply to a research oriented school.

In reading your question it appears that you did not take all of the prerequisite courses for med school.  "Several biology classes" aren't going to get you into med school. You need to do the chemistry, physics and calculus courses that comprise the prereqs for med school.  There's no avoiding that.

When admission committees consider your application they look at three main areas:  Your overall GPA, your GPA in the prereqs and your MCAT score.
