both the lyrics and the production individually are better than the album as a whole?

For example, Perseverance by Percee P I think the lyrics are a 9.5/10 and the production is a 9/10, but overall the album is only an 8.5/10 because Percee P's flow didn't match Madlib's beats.

Big L - Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous

I think the production and lyrics were both great.. But I don't think the production fully suited Big L and didn't allow him to fully showcase his talent..

Matter of fact, I think the same could be said for The Big Picture too, which is a shame since they really could have worked better with the tracks he had finished before he died..

Canibus - Can-I-Bus.

Canibus was on point and Wyclef's beats were solid but they just didn't go together at all. Take those lyrics and put hard beats behind them or those beats with a more laid back MC and you've got a great album either way.
