Question:

Are there any alternate solutions to injections?

I've had just about enough of them. I've had my teeth pulled 3 or 4 times, I've had 2 gum grafts, and a biopsy on my back. All called for injections of that Novicane stuff, and I'm sick of it. It hurts, it swells, and it feels all stiff afterwards. Sometime in the future I'm gonna have to get yet another gum graft and also get my wisdom teeth out. I really don't want to get any more injections. Are there any alternate solutions that don't involve pain, but work just as well?

  1. You can get nitrous oxide gas before the oral injections - you're kind of sedated before you get it.  My dentist will give me a q-tip with lidocaine gel on it and have me put it where she wants to inject.  I'll leave it there for a couple of minutes and voila - no feeling of the injection at all.  I agree - novicaine feels like they're pushing glass through that needle.  I need my wisdom teeth pulled and I'm desperately afraid to get it done.  You could also have your doctor prescribe you a valium, xanax or ativan (like one or two pills) prior to any work so that you're mellowed out and sedated before the work is done.  Just make sure there is someone to drive you to and from the apointment, though.

  2. If you want to pay extra you can get anything you want!

  3. You could be sedated ad then have the injections. Oral surgeons and most periodontists will sedate patients.

  4. Oral or Injections, one or the other

  5. just advice ,no alternates because sometimes u just need injections only
