Question:

Are there any alternatives to shower curtain liners?

I don't like the idea of having to throw out all of that plastic lining every 6 months or year. I try to keep mine as long as possible but the wife does not like all the mold buildup that just won't wash off anymore. Are there any biodegradable or earth friendly alternatives? How about just using a cloth liner? Any ideas?

Cotton Canvas & Hemp Shower Curtains

Cotton and hemp shower curtains keep water in the tub and PVC liners out of landfills! Completely washable while in use and biodegradable when disposed of, these cotton canvas shower curtains and hemp shower curtains won't out-gas like vinyl curtains and they feel great next to your skin in the shower. Pack cloth shower liners are also available for a virtually maintenance free option.

  4. We use cloth liners.  Just look for a reusable shower curtain liner.  We bought ours at either Bed Bath and Beyond or Linens N Things.   Many many stores have them.

I have friends that throw their plastic liners in the clothes washer, and it seems to work for them.  But if yours are getting stained, I would go with the cloth reusable ones.

    Good luck!

  5. You could install shower doors; it's a one time cost, but you will have to clean those too.

  6. Not that I know of but why not just throw your present liner in the washing machine with a cup of white vinegar to kill the mold and remove the soap scum.  You don't even have to use detergent to get it clean.  Just rehang it straight from the washer and let it air dry.
