  1. The only animals that have been observed having s*x for s*x and not procreation are binobos.  They have same s*x relationships, as well.  They are human's closest primate relative.

  2. Ask a zoologist...visit you local zoo and ask.

  3. THE BINOBO'S AND THEN OF COURSE THERE'S DOLPHINS. THEY HAVE HIGHLY ACTIVE s*x LIVES.

  4. monkeys.

  5. At the London Zoo it was observed that Bonobos, under the duress of captivity, did at least try to enhance their sexual pleasure through masturbation.  It was noted that especially randy female bonobos would immitate the role of the male bonobo by the crafty use of bananas that had been frozen by handlers to be better preserved from the effects of exposure to the elements.  You can watch the bonobos doing what bonobos will do at: http://www.arkive.org/species/GES/mammal...

  6. One of the closest relatives to our species, homo sapiens sapiens, are called bonobos. They are very, very similar to chimpanzees. Bonobos use sexual contact as a means to socialize. They have s*x pretty much all the time, with multiple partners, and regardless of gender (there goes the simplistic notion that homosexuality is somehow "unnatural"!).

Interestingly, bonobos are also matriarchal (the females are the dominant individuals in the troupe) and they are very non-violent compared to the male-dominated chimpanzees (who often fight for dominance within the troupe hierarchy, attack and kill neighboring chimps, and even occasionally eat meat). They are a good example of how we like to "anthropomorphize" animals though. In other words, we often jump to the conclusion that "s*x" means the same thing across species. For bonobos, it clearly has a purely social function as well as a reproductive (and pleasure-inducing) function.

Sadly bonobos are under serious threat in the wild.

  7. From what I have heard, dolphins have s*x for pleasure.  In science class, we also watched a video of killer wales rubbing their backs on rock to get aroused.  This kinda grossed me out.  In Anthropology class, we also watched a video about s*x, but among the Bonobo Chimps.  The thing I remember the most about it is how the dominant female has s*x with chimps that want to be accepted into her group, and even the females would mount her.
