Question:

Are there any areas of London left that are still overwhelmingly white, British, Protestant, and working-poor?

I can't think of any. It seems to me all the impoverished neighbourhoods in and around Greater London are inhabited by ethnic and racial minorities. Did native born white, Protestant Londoners all suddenly become middle-class over the last 20 years? The old Eastend is either gentrified with Yuppies or it is ghetto. The same can be said for nearly every patch of London that were once noted to be dominated by white, working-class,British people.

  1. So what?

  2. Lol good point! They definitely can't have all become middle-class, maybe just moved out of London.

  3. White Anglo Saxon Protestant Londoners were slowly moved out of London starting from the late 1940s to new developments outside of London.

This video helps explain some of the reason why folk left London for the sticks following WW2 here in UK.

In the 1950s new towns were built, such as Crawley and others and these were populated by Londoners, many of the Cockney variety too.

At the end of WW2 there were nearly 2million Londoners without proper homes.

In 1953 the then UK.gov built 1-million new council houses across the UK in that single year.  Folk moved out of the inner cities and out into the new estates and towns across UK.

Starting from c1949 immigration was stepped up - first from the Windies and then from further afield from the rest of the Commonwealth.

There are parts of London which remain predominantly white, but not working class.  My borough of Greenwich actually has a very low percentage of non-whites, even though there are many black and asian folk on the streets at times, they don't actually live here.

This of course will change with time.

What's stopping black and asian folk moving out to live near me?

Mainly it's house prices, which inspite of the house price fall in the rest of UK, continue to remain strong and high where I live.  A neighbour of mine just sold his house for £500,000 - an ordinary 3 bed suburban property of the 1930s - much sought after.

Within a quarter of a mile of where I live, the houses are in the £800,000 to £1.2+ price range - very expensive.

But, like I say, things will change over time.

In addition to all of the above, hundreds of thousands of Londoners simply moved out of London altogether after WW2 - you just cannot imagine what London was like - it had lost over a quarter of it's houses due to bombing raids - factories, warehouses and lots more destroyed.

Outside of London things wee different and soon the towns of Kent began to fill up with Londoners.  The local Kent accent soon disappeard to be replaced by something approaching Cockney.

    And so it goes.

UK is a prosperous nation and the people are encouraged to become home owners and shareholdrs so that they can benefit from this wealth - what the English call the Commonwealth of England.

By the end of WW2 over 250,000 Londoners were either dead or seriously injured as a result of the bombing.

Adolf Hitler was determined to destroy London from the outset.
