Are there any atheists out there that believe in ghosts and why?

I realize most atheists believe there is just nothing when you die, so can you believe in ghosts? It seems like a contradiction.

  1. well you dont realsie that most atheists believe there is nothing when you die because thats not true

    some do, some dont

but who knows what the majority rule is

i believe in the possibility of an energy spectrum that coudl explain 'ghosts'

because it is always a possibility, because we do not know what will happen to our energy once we die and it converts, we do not know what it may be converted into and whether or not it is conscious and contains what we may refer to as a 'soul' or not

    how is it a contradiction?

i dont believe in a religious creator because it is illogical and clearly a mere idealistic fantasy concocted by people

whereas energy conversion and our not knowing what happens after death is not, its a question mark

    i dotn see the contradiction

god and ghosts are not connected in any way, except for beleivers

  2. they are demons=wicked spirits....they sure enjoy using satans name on avators...see it alot

  3. I believe in spirit energy, which can cause hauntings.

There is simply no god involved.

  4. I dont, I wonder if there are atheists that believe in global warming...

  5. yes and no. I believe that humanity has just scratched the surface about what is really going on. science or no, we are hugely ignorant. I think there are things that we cannot explain. however this does not validate the supernatural by a simple default.

  6. I believe there are still unanswered questions and unexplained phenomena.  But life-after-death ghosts seem pretty unlikely.

  7. I'm an atheist and I don't believe in ghosts - certainly not as afterlife souls of dead people.

Like many "supernatural" phenomena, it seems the more closely ghosts are investigated the less verifiable evidence is found. Most such anecdotal experiences with ghosts appear to be little more than the products over-active imagination and auto-suggestion.

As a scientist I would say that the appropriate response to anecdotal evidence is to keep an open mind and apply rigorous scientific techniques in investigating. On balance I would say that at present there is insufficient evidence to state that "ghosts" (whatever they may be) exist but I am not wedded to any dogmatic view that precludes a change of view if more evidence becomes available - that's what science is all about.

  8. Yes it is a contradiction and I doubt there are any atheist that do.

  9. Yes, I do. But I don't say 'gawd diddit', I say "Its just energy".

  10. some do, i don't, i am a firm believer or when you die there is nothing, but i did used too...

  11. I believe in the possibility of ghosts, but I don't believe that they have anything to do with religion or heaven or h**l. I've been to the famous haunted Whaley house. I noticed some crazy, unexplainable $hit there. No kidding.

  12. Atheism only speaks to one's belief about the existence of gods, not about an afterlife.  So yes, there are some atheists out there who believe in ghosts.

However, most atheists are also skeptics.  Skeptics are people who require clear proof of something before they'll believe in it.  Since most atheists are also skeptics, then most atheists do not believe in an afterlife or in ghosts because there is no clear proof of either being real.

  13. I certainly don't believe in ghosts...

  14. It sure is. One you made up entirely in your head.

  15. I don't believe in ghosts.
