  1. I am Atheist and I don't support Abortion. Adoption is a perfect option for those to immature to deal with the after affects of their actions. There is absolutely no need to kill what would be a living human being, regardless of your thoughts on when it is considered living or not.

Survival of the fittest? Give the kid a chance to grow up and then tell him you were gonna off him before he was even born, see how long you survive...

  2. i bet that the thing you are most likely to hear from athiests is that even if they oppose abortion, they would prefer not to inflict that belief on others. athiests tend toward individual thinking and are often repulsed by the dogma of institutions, so i would imagine that they tend toward libertarian on most social/cultural issues.

  3. I'm not an atheist nor am I a religious freak and I believe abortion is a terrible thing.

  4. Hypothetically, it is possible for an atheist to oppose abortion. I've never encountered any who were.

"... the freedom hating ultra right wing religiou freaks ..."

I really, really want to remember the fact that you said that and throw it in the face of all "liberals" to prove that the conservatives are not the only people who are hateful and divisive. Thanks.

  5. I am as I haven't seen a good definition of when life starts and I don't like the idea that the government gets to define life.

  6. I do not oppose the legal right to an abortion.

One does not even need to agree with the procedure to recognize that government control of people's medical choices is a bad thing.

    I am a Libertarian.

Here is my reasoning: A human being develops gradually in the womb. Both sperm and egg are alive and virtually identical to fertilized eggs, so it doesn't make sense to ban very early abortions - and a first trimester fetus cannot feel or think - they are potentials!

Lots of people moralize the issue of abortion - oh, she didn't close her legs - or why not put up a baby for adoption? They don't think of the problems that would accompany a government ban of a medical procedure, or that other individuals must make up their own minds on the issue - or that more unwanted children (the products of unwanted pregnancies) would not equate to a better society.

The best thing we can agree on is to make contraception as common as lemonade. That would reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies.

  7. No, I don't think abortion is wrong, and I am atheist.

Abortion is snuffing out the potential for life. Those clumps of cells are not yet living breathing individuals. At this stage, an abortion is essentially and morally the same as not having s*x in the first place.

In other words, if abortion is killing a child, so is not having s*x. In either case you are preventing the formation of a baby from lower orders.

So go out and have constant s*x...or you're immoral. See how this interpretation causes difficulties?

  8. I am and I do.

Roe v. Wade was a poor interpretation of the Constitution as well as being poor science and poor public policy.

The right of one person to convenience does not override the right of another person to existence

  9. As an deist I say choose or not, but we are all pro life and anti death.

  10. I am an atheist who has mixed feelings about abortion.

I find abortion as a cosmetic procedure to morally offrensive.  (Yes, atheists do have moral concepts.)

On the other hand, I believe that abortion should be available to women whose lives are jeopardized by the pregnancy or who became pregnant as a result of rape or incest.

  11. I oppose it as a form of birth control

  12. I'm sure there is. What does atheism have to do with fighting to make abortions for the affluent only?

  13. There are millions of them that oppose abortion, atheists do have feelings, and think things are wrong.

  14. There probably is since abortion is not a religious issue but rather a human rights issue.  There are at least several freedom loving non-athiest folk that do..

  15. I'm far from ultra right wing, but I think abortion should be illegal because it's not a "whoopsy, I made a mistake, I accidentally created a life" situation. I also think that women that have more than two kids out of wedlock should be sterilized. That doesn't sound very "religious" does it?

    A little morality wouldn't hurt...

  16. I suppose that the same atheists who oppose abortion would be the same atheists who oppose murder...

  17. It is more of a question on putting value of life than it is a belief in God.

Just because some one doesn't believe in God doesn't mean they agree will killing babies.

  18. i apose it and i don't know wat atheists is lol bu ti think it's wrong to kill a baby cause it's already partly formed

  19. Nancy Pelosi, the wonderful practicing Catholic approves of sucking children from wombs and flushing them down the drain.  Obama approves of killing children born after a botched abortion..So exactly who are the freaks?  Wanna talk about  partial birth abortion too?.

I am an agnostic and unlike you I was not born with omnscience so I can not tell exactly when human life begins and the soul enters the body...By the way  The "freedom" happened when she  "chose" to have intercourse.

Actions have consequences and the consequence of her freedom was an infant, not a blob of protoplasm

  20. Sure, there are also freedom hating atheist freaks.  Though I'd say the vast majority of atheists view it as a private medical procedure.  There is even one who posts here on this board from time to time who I think is opposed to it.  (Jibba where are you?)

    :O)

  21. I think abortion is wrong but I don't oppose it. You can't put an end to abortion by making it illegal. You only do so by fixing the social conditions that lead to that choice in the first place.

  22. atheists, who often pride themselves on their cool rationality and logic, can't find justification to keep anyone alive, and given any excuse will hire out the murder of any person at all.  they will permit slaughter of any kind as long as it doesn't interfere with their own pursuit of property.

  23. Why do people chose to categorize humans in this way. Why do i have to be something in order to be recognized.

  24. I wouldn't call myself an atheist, but I do not subscribe to any of the major religions. I guess I'd call myself 'spiritual'. That being said, I strongly oppose abortion on grounds that have absolutely nothing to do with my 'spirituality'. My oppositions comes from the biological fact that after about the 2nd month, a fetus' nervous system is almost complete and the process of abortion literally rips that living, FEELING human being apart. You'd hear them scream if they weren't in a liquid environment. And, if you consider the fact that abortion is legal and performed at ANY stage of pregnancy, up to and including the point of birth, any rational person would have to agree that it's an incredibly horrendous and barbaric practice.

As for 'freedom hating', I've got to tell you that nothing deprives a person's freedom more than death, particularly when that death literally involves the act of being drawn and quartered without the benefit of anesthesia. All so that the mother, whose irresponsibility played a major role in the creation of this human being, does not have to deal with the inconvenience of her and her boyfriend's actions.

Yeah, you're a real enlightened dude. But good question, hope that helps.

  25. If it was mine I would oppose but other wise people have free will

  26. I can't wait to see these answers.  Evolution says survival of the fitest.  There is no murder in nature just survival. Only morality says it is wrong to kill a child and to have morality, you need a Spiritual compass....

  27. Nobody thinks that abortion is a good think. The differences in opinions are in what to do about it. If government or church will dictate a person what to do with his own body, then soon jails  (or h**l) will be filled up with teens who forgot to brush their teeth.

Prohibitions of any kind never worked and never will.

Republicans are making a big buzz about it, without ever proposing any solution except jail or death row. So that is nothing but one more republican absurd lie that has the goal to 'divide and conquer'

  28. There is quite a difference between a personal decision versus having a protocol that all people must follow.
