  1. There are no beaches between Palm Springs and Santa Barbara as Palm Springs is about 100 miles inland. However, there is a beach at the end of the runways at LAX and there are planes taking off there all the time.

  2. LAX is the only airport where the flight path goes directly over the beach.  The normal flight path goes directly over the beach, and the jets are only a couple hundred feet off the ground as they pass over the beach, and continue to make a long, slow climb -- espcially the big heavies like a 747 or Airbus A330 -- and an A380 is *really* impressive taking off.

On rare occasion,  they'll reverse the flight path due to heavy fog inland of the airport.  But it's a sure thing that they'll make their approach from the ocean when it's a strong Santana wind day -- usually a couple days each fall.

If you want to see landing jets up close, go to John Wayne airport in Orange County, and park in the remote parking lot on the north side of the 405 freeway.  John Wayne has an unusually short run way, so the jets come in very low and slow on final approach - maybe 70' off the deck as they cross the freeway.

  3. well on Dockweiler beach(near lax) you can see planes taking off

not landing  (although some times due to bad weather they will land

    over the ocean
