  1. Kevin Hall is a deaf African American on the Nationwide. He played at Ohio State.

Jim Thorpe is on the Champions (Senior) Tour.

There have been others in the past: Charlie Sifford, was the first African American PGA Tour member in 1962. In 1975, Lee Elder became the first African American to play in the Masters.

Vijay is from Fiji. The South African golfers mentioned are not Americans at all. They're South Africans.

  2. Yes there are many - but none on the current PGA tour right now.

  3. Lee Elder, PGA 1st African-American to play in the Masters, 3 Tour Victories

Jim Dent, 12  Senior Tour Victories

    Calvin Peete, 12 Tour Victories

Pete Brown, 1st African-American to win a PGA Tour Tournament

Charlie Sifford, 1st African-American to play on PGA Tour

  4. If you want to get technical about it Trevor Immelman, Retief Goosen,  and Ernie Els are all from South Africa, so technically they are African American, but not black. Other then that I am just thinking Woods.

  5. First of all BR knows nothing just because your from South Africa doesn't mean that you are African American. South Africa was controlled by the apartheid for many years, and controlled by white English men until it became a democracy in the 90' with Nelson Mandela.

Technically, Tiger is not African American and he said it himself although his dad was African American. Also, Vijay Singh is not African American, he is from Fiji.

Currently, no there are zero African Americans. Kevin Hall on the Nationwide Tour and Jim Thorpe on Champions. In the past, there has been African Americans on the tour.

  6. TIger Woods, Kinda

  7. natonwide tour , south african tour . south asian tour  asian tour  japan tour . canadian tour .

  8. Yes.  Tiger Woods, I know of a guy that is deaf and on the nationwide tour.. and there are more, throughout the world's tours.

  9. Really?  There is a deaf guy on the nationwide Tour?  Really?  Isn't that an unfair advantage in golf?  If Casey Martin isn't allowed to play with a cart because of a circulatory disability in his leg, then this deaf dude isn't allowed to play because he will never get distracted.  LOL!!!  I'm just kidding guys; don't take me serious.

For real though, I wish more African-Americans were represented on tour.  It would really diversify golf and help grow the game.  I volunteered at the First Tee in my city and helped teach underprivileged inner city kids the game during summer camps; it was the greatest experience of my life.  Tiger is only half black, but he is doing so much in that regard.  I applaud all he contributes to the game itself and what he does through his foundation.

By the way Golfblogger: Els, Goosen, Immelman, and all those guys reside in the United States, some have citizenship and own houses here; I think that makes them African-American.

  10. I can't think of one 100 % African American on the Pro tour right now. Tiger is half Thai, Vijay is pacific Islander.

  11. Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh - to name two.

  12. jim dent jim thorpe walter morgan are active pros but they are all on the champions tour. but as for the pga tour there arent any. by the way vijay isnt african or american hes fijian.

  13. um Tiger Woods, Trevor Immelman, Retief Goosen
