I'm interested in the sport because I'm intrigued by the workouts and the discipline, but the only gyms that are closest to me are like 50 miles away. Is there any videos that ya'll can recommend?

  1. I would absolutely recommend Erik Paulson's stuff. You can get some of it on Youtube, or if you want to buy:

Nothing beats a real instructor and live training, but it sounds like that may be pretty difficult for you. Getting a resisting partner to work some of these drills on will probably work a lot better than going it alone.

    Good luck and be careful!

  2. Although boxing is an individual sport, it requires a team effort to learn.

You absolutely must have a good instructor to show you proper technique. You will not get that from watching a video, because someone must watch you as you learn.

You will also need partners to train with (i.e. focus mitts, movement).

Your best bet is to get into shape (lots of running) and try to schedule a training session a couple of times a month (at least) with a good trainer in a reputable gym far away.

  3. BJ Penn's MMA book and Eddie Bravo has two really good BJJ books

  4. Bas Rutten's books & DVD's are also good sources.

  5. tao of jeet kune do    by bruce lee
