  1. I gotta say weescotsguy66 told me to stay near Victory monument which he said was near Bumrungrad Hospital.  So I'm wondering where he's getting his information from

Here are some of the things near Ratchathewi BTS

    Chulalongkorn University

    Police Headquarters

    Pantip Plaza

    Pratunam

    Indonesian Embassy

Makkasan Railway station (The new pink line to BKK)

    United Securities Public Company Limited

Siam Commercial New York Life Insurance

APEC Center for Technology Insight (Non Profit)

The National Energy Policy Office (NEPO)

Thai No.1 Connections Co., Ltd. (matchmaker service)

Its not great but its not bad either.  (It isn't Tysons Corner more like Fairfax).  If you work for a company there it won't be a premier top company but probably a decent working job.

Oh the negative (thumbs down) are from lovers who can make the grade (small thumbs you know).

  2. Hey!! you made it back. How's it going so far??

Sorry I can't help you, I don't know that part of Bangkok very well

  3. This is acheap neighbour hood, but it is on the skytrain route, what I have seen there is alot of small wholesaler there usually in townhouses usally the like of printers, beer wholesalers it is a lower class area compared with wireless road area

  4. There are a few if you wonder up the road towards Victory Monument (about 500 meters away). Mainly its shops and government offices near Asia hotel. As you walk down to MBK from Asia there are a bunch of massage places and cheap restaurants, a car dealership and an anti-corruption government office. On the other side, over the bridge, you come to a royal palace (not open to the public) and then to Siam Discovery mall. Going the other way from the hotel, i.e. turning left out the front door, there are a bunch of massage place, a 7-11, and some other small shops. Then you get to a junction which is Petchaburi road. In that area there are for some reason lots of opticians - handy if you need a new pair of glasses. Turn right at the junction and after 10 minutes walk you get to Pantip Plaza, the Indonesian embassy and, on the other side of the road, Pratu Narm market, Baiyoke Sky hotel, Indra Regent hotel and a bunch of others. It's not the greatest part of BKK to stay in but its OK as its just one stop on the BTS to the Siam Square area to all the malls that are there and Asia Hotel is a lot cheaper than the hotels in Siam Square e.g. Novotel. I stayed at Asia hotel when I first went to BKK. Nowdays I'd rather stay on Sukhumvit.
