Question:

Are there any cats that I might be less allergic to or shed less?

I kind of want a cat, but I am allergic to a lot of them. Although, most animals that I am around a lot I get used to and my allergy to them goes away or gets better. I also would like as little hair to clean up as possible.

If I work every day but can come home for lunch and have weekends off, would that be enough attention to give a kitten?

  1. How about a hairless cat? They don't have no hair at all! I know they look creepy in a way but they're sweet and loving cats.

  2. My partner is allergic to most cats too, I went out and bought Monty, our ragdoll and Max our Norweigian Forest cat. He has no problems with his allergy now. We had a ginger tom that used to come in before we got the kittens and that used to make his eyes water, sneeze etc. And I work everyday too. I feel much better now I have 2, they keep each other company but I do go home for an hour nearly every lunchtime to feed and cuddle them.

1 piece of advice - only get a cat if you are completely serious about it. They are hard work, smelly and expensive!! Wouldnt give mine up for the world though!

  3. Unfortunately cat allergies are related to cat dander not the fur. Unless you want to take allergy meds long term I suggest you not get a cat. I would hate to see you adopt a cat, let it get comfy in your home and then have to re-home it due to your allergies.

  4. You are not allergic to your own cat.  It will just take a while for you to get used to a cat, but when you have, you should be fine.  I would suggest a short-hair variety, to shed less.

  5. Maybe a hairless cat. They have no hair therefore they don't shed. You don't say if you work abnormally long hours. If you have a 40 hour work week a cat should be alright, especially if you come home for lunch.

  6. no, all cats will have the dander ...  there are OTC sprays you can get at the pet store that supposedly will break down the dander when applied weekly to a cat you keep groomed ...  they groom themselves mostly for dirt, but you will need to take care of the dander part ...

keep them brushed and there should be less hair ...  if you vacuum at least once a week, then you will not likely see any fur build-up ...

cats are very independent ...  your schedule will be fine for a kitten ...  be sure to play with her when you are around ...

  7. Domestic short hair tabbies don't shed much. If you work and nobody is at home while you are gone, I think you should get two kittens so the other won't get bored. This way, the kitten won't get lonely and you'll have twice the fun! Check www.petfinder.com, there are a lot of shelters that have kittens being adopted only in pairs with their brothers or friends.

  8. get a siamese cat! they don't have any fur, which is what most people are allergic to. they cost a lot, as they are pedigrees, but very cute!

kittens need a lot of care and attention, so you might want to consider an older cat (1 year old), but I'm sure you could have a kitten if you looked after it, which I'm sure you will ^_^

  9. if you're gona be gone most of the day i suggest getting two kittens.  i have a kitten and shes a domestic short hair gray and white and she barely sheds any fur.  but i suggest getting two kittens and always make sure to clean the litterbox regularly.
