Question:

Are there any cats that shed less than others ?

I know short hairs shed less but are there any breeds that shed less than others.

  1. My experience has been fairly good with Siamese or Burmese or Russian Blue - they're all related breeds that don't shed very much.


  2. The Rex cats shed very little and then there is the hairless Sphynx.

  3. Actually, short hairs shed more sometimes. Maine Coon cats don't seem to shed much--they have a very long haired, thick coat with a heavy undercoat. I've had both short and long-haired cats and it seemed to me the long-haired cats were the ones that didn't shed as much.

  4. I have a 9 month old Persian and another on the way and I've found that my 9 month old sheds in little clumps that are easy to spot and pick up. He sheds quite a bit when I brush him but I'm not finding gobs of cat hair all over the house. I would say the Persian breed is a more moderate than heavy shedder.
