I've been in the Navy for just over 4 years and I'm transitioning to the army and I wanted to know if there was a "support group" for vegetarians in the military.

  1. No, I have never seen one.

    However, you wouldn't be alone.

I was one of two vegetarians in my unit going through bootcamp and people were more than accepting. Nobody raised an eye. I have only met critical, judgemental people online. You will find plenty of support from your battle buddies. We would swap MRE's in the field since they do give you a vegetarian one as an option. Mess hall is actually very veg-friendly, with plenty of vegetarian options, and a very plentiful salad bar (at least in most places at Ft. Jackson and Ft. Sam-Houston, the two I spent the most time at, being in health care spec.)

Good luck, thanks for serving our country, and thanks for leading a life of compassion and sacrifice even when it comes to diet. People like you have hearts of gold :)
