Are there any college volleyball that would take a short girl.?

My sister loves volleyball to death. She played in high school but was treated badly by the other players because of how small she is. It is hard to say if is really good or not. But at 4'9 I know she is going to have such a hard time getting coaches to even look at her just because of her height. I'm a 5'9 guy, and a lot of these girls that play on college teams are taller than I am! She is a very depressed person due to the fact that she was so poorly treated in high school.

So my question is: Are there any special colleges that will consider taking a 4'9 girl? She just loves volleyball so much and would be deeply disappointed if she could not make a team because of her height.

Or should I tell her life is unfair.

  1. Because she's only 4'9", she's suitable for only one position:  libero.  This makes her not nearly as versatile as taller players who can usually play at least two positions.

However, if she's good at playing libero (and tallness contributes nothing to this position), she can play at any college.  I think her best bet is to find a small volleyball program at a Division III school where they need players.  She should be able to get on a D III team despite her height, because she's familiar with the game.

  2. if she is really good then they would no problem, my coach was so short!! we used to make fun of her all the time but she played college too n was really good

  3. If she is a very good defense player in back you there are colleges that would take her because tallness has nothing to do with it. she prolly wont get a lot of spiking though
