  1. There are NO COMMUTER TRAINS in  Houston.  There are light rail/streetcar/tramway in Houston by now (and also a three weekly long distance Amtrak train from Los Angeles to New Orleans that stops in Houston).  There is a plan to built a hugh intermodal transport network that include commuter rail system there, please look at:

  2. Houston has a brand new light rail system with new cars made by Siemens.  other cities around the country that have subways are New York City, Washington DC, Miami, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Baltimore, Portland(light rail), Philadelphia, and probably others that i cannot think of right now.  Also, the four largest commuter railroads in the United Sates, ranging from 1 for the largest to four for the fourth largest (obviously) are Long Island Railroad (New York..Long Island), Metro North Railroad (New York), Metra (Chicago), and New Jersey Transit (New Jersey).  San Francisco has Cal Train, Altamount has ACE (Altamount Commuter Express), Los Angeles has MetroLink, Seattle has Sounder, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale has Tri-Rail, Baltimore has MARC(Maryland Area Rail Commuter), Virginia has VRE (Virginia Railway Express), Philadelpia has SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority), Boston has MBTA(Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) and then of course there is Amtrak, which is nationwide.

  3. Houston got light rail in 2004.  It's one line that is about 7 miles long.  Currently, there is a fight about a second line connecting Downtown to the Galleria via Richmond Ave.

  4. Portland, Oregon has MAX (light rail)

  5. Houston, TX - A pedestrian was taken by ambulance to Ben Taub Hospital after a MetroRail train struck her at Main and McGowen in Midtown. The train accident was the second involving the MetroRail in one day.

Metropolitan Transit Authority said that the northbound light rail train was stopped at the intersection when it received a signal to proceed and started forward.

Witnesses said the pedestrian, identified only as a woman who appeared to be in her 40s, was crossing Main from east to west and was struck by the right front corner of the train.

A spokesman for MetroRail said, 'Some reports said she was running. The woman was knocked to the side of the train and into the intersection, but was conscious when placed on the ambulance.

The train accident was the 99th since the light rail trains began running in November 2003, and the seventh involving a pedestrian. One train accident involved a man in a wheelchair.

The other train accident occurred when a southbound train on Fannin struck a vehicle eastbound on Binz. The motorist, who lives in Georgia, was ticketed for allegedly running a red light when he was struck.
